Who Are We?
GlobaLand Group LLC is a Washington, DC based firm committed to building public-private partnerships that address the needs of the world's poor.  Based on a nuanced understanding of poverty provided by decades of experience in the developing world, our company seeks to create integrated solutions to informality.

To this end, GlobaLand organizes consortiums that can survey and register informal properties and the businesses they house, provide low cost financing, and deliver valuable services like construction and insurance to the bottom of the economic pyramid.

We believe that the only solution to poverty is to empower the poor themselves to take control of their economic lives.  GlobaLand's consortiums provide the poor with access to their own frozen savings, convert their idle assets into investment capital, and deliver the tools they need to make use of it.

Such a transformation depends sound policy and good law. However, many governments lack the resources and expertise to carry out reforms they have accepted as necessary, a problem that is particularly acute in the area of land policy.

Informal landholdings account for more than 90% of the plots in many developing countries, trapping the savings of poor in illiquid assets. The cost of simply mapping and titling these properties is in the hundreds of billions of dollars and heavily indebted governments can ill afford such new expenditures despite the potential fiscal, economic and social benefits.

The financial, technical and operational hurdles make the prospect of national land regularization daunting to poor governments and the cost is far too large to be paid out of aid coffers.

Moreover, even when reforms are made and titles issued, the new documents are often unacceptable to local banks who view the micro-loan market as unattractive. This limits the poor from participating in the benefits of commerce and globalization.

Decades of research and work by NGOs and international development organizations have raised awareness for land rights issues, and GlobaLand Group is committed to continuing that work by mobilizing the private sector to pick up where governments and aid organizations have left off.
